Remote control system of smart appliances based on wireless sensor network

Abstract:

Diversification of remote control mode is the inevitable trend of development of smart appliances. In this paper we designed and developed a remote control system of smart appliances based on ZigBeewireless sensor network, realizing the diversification of remote control mode of smart appliances. The ZigBee technology is used to form a control network of household appliances within the house, tworemote control networks of Internet and SMS are set up with the network interface module and GSMmodule. Status of the home appliances can be queried and controlled through either the remote PC interface or mobile phones. The experimental results show that: the system is reliable and can realize the remote control and inquiry of household appliances. The system has the advantages of convenient in control, flexible in adding new devices.

Building lighting automation through the integration of DALI with wireless sensor networks

Abstract:

This paper focuses on the integration of Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) devices inwireless sensor networks. Since different manufacturers usually deal with one aspect of buildingautomation - e.g. heating ventilation and air conditioning, lighting control, different kinds of alarms, etc. – final building automation system has different subsystems which are finally taken to an integratedbuilding management system. The cost of this process is consequently increased due to additional hardware investment. Our main purpose is to provide the end consumer with an economical fully centralized system in which home appliances are managed by an IEEE 802.15.4-based wirelesssensor network. Not only is it necessary to focus on the initial investment, but maintenance and energy consumption costs must also be considered. This paper explains the developed system along with a brief introduction to usual building automation protocols. Finally it presents future work in this field.

Application for control of consumers using mobile phone

Abstract:

Present paper deals with the design and development of a device that controls and monitors remote processes or external devices. This device can be used as a component embedded into an automation system of an intelligent house, for managing the energy consumption in lighting, air conditioning, heating. The practical result obtained in the “Measurement and data acquisition” laboratory of the Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics Department from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty of Transilvania University of Brasov, is a test board plugged to an external device which can be any kind of sensor.

Real Time Wireless Monitoring and Control of Water Systems Using Zigbee 802.15.4

Abstract:

In this paper we have shown how to monitor the water level of water systems such as water tanks, rivers, ground water table, and bore wells remotely. We have also shown that how to control the working of pump automatically and remotely. It can also be used to remotely monitor the flood areas wirelessly and information can be sent to mobile wirelessly. This project is designed to monitor thewater level with the help of water level sensors, Zigbee 802.15.4, 74HC14 inverter and GSM technology.

Research and application of wireless temperature monitoring for transformer substation

Abstract:

As a very major part in the power grid, it is more and more important to monitor the temperature for the junctions of High Voltage Switchgear, Bus Connector, Outdoor Knife Switch and other important equipments in the Transformer Substation. In this article, based on the actual complex and changeablemonitoring environment, we designed Temperature Monitoring System for the Transformer Substation,and expounded the structural design of the system, the hardware design of monitoring device, the process design of the system software, the choice and application of wireless communication protocols in the system, and the comparison and choice of three commonly used antenna. We also compared the Battery-powered and Induction-powered in the technical conditions in this stage, analyzed the actual performance of the two main power supply mode and gave the power design for the TemperatureMonitoring System.

Accessible display design to control home area networks

Abstract:

Recently, the social inclusion and technical aid to assure autonomy to people with disabilities are getting attention all over the world. This work presents a display design for accessible interaction in home area networks. Based on a research on the accessible interfaces state of the art, an interface design was proposed. This interface was implemented over a Tablet that controls domestic devices through a home network controller prototype. In order to evaluate the design, a research was conducted, interviewing people with disabilities in Brazil. This research consolidated a feasible accessible interface to control home area networks pointing out the main requirements considering a diversified group of impairments.

Remote-Control System of High Efficiency and Intelligent Street Lighting Using a ZigBee Network of Devices and Sensors

Abstract:

The proposed remote-control system can optimize management and efficiency of street lightingsystems. It uses ZigBee-based wireless devices which enable more efficient street lamp-systemmanagement, thanks to an advanced interface and control architecture. It uses a sensor combination tocontrol and guarantee the desired system parameters; the information is transferred point by point usingZigBee transmitters and receivers and is sent to a control terminal used to check the state of the streetlamps and to take appropriate measures in case of failure..

Innovative Cost Effective Approach for Cell Phone Based Remote Controlled Embedded System for Irrigation

Abstract:

This work describes the developmentof innovative low cost cell phone based remote controlapplication for induction motor pump based irrigation in agriculture. Rural areas in many states of India are plagued by frequent power cuts and abnormal voltage conditions. The developedsystem ensures that water is distributed to field whenever normal conditions exist based on task specified. A novel concept of miscall for specified duration has been used to reduce the operational cost of the system and for the convenience of farmers facing difficulty in typing messages. Information is exchanged in form of miscalls / message between the system and the user cell phones. The system is based on AVR ATMega32 micro-controller and includes protection against single phasing, over-current, dry running and other desirable features. DS1307 and DS18S20 are used for time and temperature measurement respectively. It is expected that system will relieve hardships of farmers relating water distribution to a great extent.

Wireless electronic tourist guide system based on microcontroller

Abstract:

This article describes an intelligent electronic tourist guide system which is composed ofmicrocontroller AT89S52, radio frequency chips nRF24L01 and audio decoder chip ATJ2051. The hardware and software used in the system were characterized. A proto-type has been built to overcome many of the limitations of the traditional information and navigation tools available to visitors. The system has shown a good performance in anti-interference, especially in handy operation and playing stability. In this article we present an evaluation of the proto-type, focusing on the quality and flexibility of the visitor’s experience when using the system.

Design and implementation of intelligent urban irrigation system ZigBee modules for sensor networking

Abstract:

An urban irrigation system is designed towards the intelligence and precision of irrigation, which is based on the ZigBee wireless technology, combing with the socket Internet programming, mathematical modeling and digital control of terminal methods. The system could be widely applied to the water-saving irrigation scenarios such as the street forestation trees, bonsai plants and plants in greenhouses, which require accurate irrigation.
